AT&T is one of the leading Entertainment and Internet Service providers in the United States of America. Though having a faster broadband connection from AT&T, some users may find issues with playing online games or running Internet applications. Some users complain about latency issues while playing games like World of Warcraft, League of Legends, Heroes of the Storm, etc.. Occasionally users face problems with connecting to the game server. In most cases, a faulty Firewall setting is a reason. Another reason to have latency issues with AT&T connection while playing online games is the passive working of other applications on your home network.
As I explained before, the AT&T gateway firewall can block many online applications from accessing the Internet. If you think your router firewall is not allowing your computer to connect to the online game server, you may need to open the ports associated with the game you are playing online.
At first, you need to create an Application Profile on AT&T router and then open firewall pinholes. The below instructions are based on Pace 5268AC Gateway Graphical User Interface.
By completing the above steps, you have successfully performed port forwarding on AT&T gateway. You can use the same method to open any ports on AT&T wireless router for any Internet applications.
Some of the AT&T DSL subscribers complain about latency issues while downloading a big file, online streaming of videos, or playing online games. It is common to experience lower Internet speed while downloading big video files like movies or playing multi-user real-time games.
Some of the workarounds you can try at your side to reduce latency problems with AT&T DSL broadband is given below.
Configure AT&T Router Firewall
At first, you need to create an Application Profile on AT&T router and then open firewall pinholes. The below instructions are based on Pace 5268AC Gateway Graphical User Interface.
- Login to the Pace 5268AC Gateway by using http://192.168.1.254 on the browser address bar
- Click on the Settings and click on the Firewall
- Click on the Applications, Pinholes, and DMZ
- Go to Edit Firewall settings and click Add a new user-defined application
- Here you need to enter the name of the online game, the protocol the game is using, the port number associated with the game, etc.. You can get this information from the support page of the online game. Once the form is filled, Click Add to List button.
- On Applications, Pinholes, and DMZ page select the computer on which you are playing the online game
- Click on Select Allow individual application(s) and choose the profile you have just created for your online game.
- You need to click Add button before clicking on Save button
By completing the above steps, you have successfully performed port forwarding on AT&T gateway. You can use the same method to open any ports on AT&T wireless router for any Internet applications.
Solution For AT&T Latency Issues
Some of the workarounds you can try at your side to reduce latency problems with AT&T DSL broadband is given below.
- Power Cycle All Network Devices and Reboot your Computer
You need to power off all devices on your network (AT&T Gateway, router, etc..) and reboot your computer.
How to Power Cycle Entire Home Network - Close All Other Internet Applications On Your Network
Every App on your smartphones connected to your AT&T home network is using a portion of bandwidth. If you are not using any of them, close them immediately and prevent them from running on background. The same logic applies to the Internet-based programs running on other computers and laptops on your home network. - Replace Outdated and Faulty Network Devices
I do not think this point requires much explanation. A single faulty device on your network can affect the latency of your entire network.
